A business VoIP package could save your company money on UK and international calls. Here’s how it works.

How does business VoIP work?

Business VoIP - otherwise known as internet telephony - works by letting you make telephone calls over your broadband connection, turning your voice into data and then back into its original sound form at the other end.

Although your business VoIP line will use the internet to make and receive calls, you'll still be able to use a normal phone to dial out and can even subscribe to a geographical dialling code.

How does business VoIP compare to a traditional landline?

The biggest advantage that business VoIP has over a landline is the very cheap call rates that are available with a VoIP line. As well as getting inclusive minutes to UK and international phone numbers as part of your business VoIP plan, you can also take advantage of capped rates on mobiles and other calls outside of your allowance.

The cost-effectiveness of business VoIP makes it a great alternative to having expensive, additional permanent phone lines installed in your office - something that can be especially useful if you work from home or if your business is quite small and doesn’t have the means or the need for a large communication system.

As well as the very competitive business VoIP package rates and call costs, you can still get all the usual business phone features such as call waiting, forwarding and caller display.

Some business landline packages even come with a free business VoIP service.

What to look for in a good business VoIP package

Some landline providers offer business VoIP bundles as part of their packages, so you could save even more by going with your current phone provider. Otherwise, here’s what you should look out for when choosing a business VoIP package.

  • Inclusive calls. Different business VoIP plans offer different types and amounts of inclusive calls.
  • Geographical numbers. Many business VoIP providers give you the option of choosing a geographical number for your VoIP line for any area you want.
  • Additional lines. A good business VoIP package will give you the option of adding even more lines when you need them.
  • Additional features. You should get all the features of a traditional landline with the right package.
